HISTORY
The issue of a shortage of educational personnel at all levels and types of educational institutions in Indonesia has been addressed by the government through various teacher education courses. Around the 1950s, educational institutions such as B-I, B-II, and PGSLP were established to prepare teachers for secondary schools. Subsequently, the government's efforts included establishing Teacher Education Colleges (PTPG) through Ministerial Decree No. 382/Kab in 1954. These institutions were later integrated into a single educational entity through several stages. In 1957, PTPG was integrated into the Faculty of Education at the nearest university. In 1963, the Ministry of Basic Education established the Teacher Training Institute (IPG) to produce teachers for secondary schools. On February 8, 1961, Courses B-I and B-II were integrated into the Faculty of Education under the Ministry of Higher Education. Later on, Courses B-I and B-II in Jakarta were integrated into the Faculty of Education at the University of Indonesia. Presidential Decree No. 1 of 1963, dated January 3, 1963, then established the integration of the teacher education institutional system. This decree took effect on May 16, 1964, marking the establishment of Jakarta Institute of Teacher Education (IKIP Jakarta). The Faculty of Education (FKIP) and IPG were transformed into IKIP (Institute of Teacher Education and Educational Sciences). FKIP University of Indonesia and IPG Jakarta merged into IKIP Jakarta. Subsequently, IKIP Jakarta was mandated to develop both educational and non-educational sciences within the university framework. On August 4, 1999, IKIP Jakarta was renamed Jakarta State University (UNJ) based on Presidential Decree No. 093/1999 dated August 4, 1999, with its inauguration held by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on August 31, 1999, at the State Palace.
